Dominical Costa RicaGW DesignsWe live and work in Costa Rica - We service the globe772-0226E-mail - ben@dominical.biz www.GalleryWebs.com Choosing a website designer is fairly straight forward. Look at the designs that the designer has done and decide if you like what you see or not. Frankly what we have found in our experience, there are other matters that come into play more than the aesthetic when choosing a designer. A lot of businesses have considered actually doing their website designing in-house, and nearly everybody knows a designer or even has one in the family. It would seem that one of the major concerns with selecting a website designer is confidence. Confidence that they will do what they say. We deal with that concern directly. Simply talk to any of our clients, including all of the merchants of Dominical, and ask about our reliability. Then if you like what you hear and see, give us a shot at your business. Please keep in mind that the above is in reference to web site designing. There is a lot more involved in having a successful site than getting the site professionally designed and built. The other factors include: Usability: The ability to find what is looked for. There are now entire corporations dedicated to this area of specialization in web design. A web design company should offer this as an aspect of its overall service. Good coding practices: The basic language of the web is in a constant state of flux. We are currently at 4.+ HTML and tables have just begun to disappear. There are now entire websites being designed through pure Cascading Style Sheets. This results in extremely light weight (fast loading) web sites, while being convenient to update and change. There is the added advantage of accessiblity. Just as in a brick and mortar store, a web site should be concerned with accessiblity. This is parallel to putting a wheel chair ramp up to the entrance of a store. There are large numbers of people with disabilities that are using the web. There are aspects of Cascading Style Sheets that make a site talk to a blind visitor, and usable to someone that can't use a mouse. These standards take years to become adopted across the board, but now is the time to start implementing these on current sites. To some extent, sites with these and other superior coding practices have an edge with the search engines as well. Content management. Initially a site receives all of its visitors from search engines and other sites that link to it. After a time though, the majority of the site's visitors should be repeat and referred there by word of mouth. Such sites require that they be fresh and interesting to those that were just there recently. The construct of the site should be such that it can be easily updated. Search Engine Optimization: This is an extremely dynamic specialized aspect of web site maintenance. Frequently it is beyond the scope of a web design company. The search scene changes on a daily basis as the engines struggle with the ever growing demands placed on them for relevant results, doing so while under a constant barrage of unsavory spamming techniques by unscrupulous webmasters. A balance of the above points of web design, along with a studied, well crafted Search Engine Optimization strategy is needed for the long haul. Put into practice intelligently such a practice will yeild dividends. The organic results of searches, those all important free listings that appear high up in the search services, are getting increasingly difficult to come by. Consequently there is a growing interest in pay-per-click services. These campaigns involve oversight by someone in the know regarding the search engines and the keywords that internet users actually use to search for a product or service. Real World Promotion: This involves graphic design, printing, distribution of the printed matter into markets where they will provide the biggest return on the investment. Full internet services provided. We put a special emphasis on search engine promotion. We love creating beautiful web sites, but there is little point to it if it cannot be found. We analyze your site and what is offered there, and then offer various options depending on your budget and objectives. |
