Hacienda Baru is an enormous nature
reserve, right on the ocean extending inland. Lodgings, canopy
tours, rain
forest
education, zip line tours, restaurant,
Our mission is to preserve the Hacienda's natural
resources while educating visitors about its biological wealth.
In carrying this out, Hacienda Baru provides nature-oriented tours,
adventures and services and supports both local scientific research
and responsible community development. The Webguy's comments:
In preparation for posting this page to the site, I had the opportunity to
visit with Jack Ewing, one of the founders of Hacienda Baru. I was looking
forward to the meeting. Since I had started this project, I have heard the
name Jack Ewing repeatedly as someone that I should talk with. Jack has written
articles on Costa Rica with a particular focus on the Dominical area since
the '70's when he arrived here. Jack must be one of the leading authorities
on all things Costa Rica. He has personally reforested tremendous tracts
of land here. In the "Sustainable Paradise" article, you will see
before and after pictures of the Hacienda Baru. He has also engaged in extensive
wildlife salvage campaigns, one of which is an overhead monkey pathway that
enables monkeys to move around freely in the treetops, regardless of the
road that was cut through their jungle. Jack is currently engaged in a project
that he hopes to see fulfill its objective in his lifetime, "The
Path of the Tapir" project. This will be explained in detail
further on.
If you find that the information and spirit of what Hacienda Baru
is doing here and you would like to learn more, please feel free
to contact Jack at the information above.
